After a home-friendly month of November and a home schedule that has more home games than road games in December, the Boston Bruins will face a very difficult month of January to ring in the New Year with some big-time matchups, including the first matchup against the Buffalo Sabres, who knocked the Black and Gold out of the playoffs in the first round last spring.
It is crazy to think that the NHL is holding the first Bruins/Sabres matchup until January, but here we are. With that said, let's break down the Bruins' January schedule in depth.

Boston will ring in the New Year in Chicago with an afternoon game on New Year's Day against the Blackhawks. After a stop in Columbus to play the Blue Jackets, the Black and Gold will get their first shot against Buffalo to get some revenge for their first-round playoff elimination last spring. It'll also be the first time that Charlie McAvoy faces Zach Benson, who delivered a very dangerous slew-foot that was ignored by the NHL, and McAvoy has been hit with a six-game suspension for slashing Buffalo's rat.
A trip the next night to Montreal to play the Canadiens begins a two-game road trip that ends in the Motor City against the Red Wings. The end of the month is a second trip out West for the Bruins, with games against the Colorado Avalanche and a very difficult back-to-back against the Vegas Golden Knights and Utah Mammoth. The month ends with a home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs before the All-Star break, which is a week and a half.
January is going to be a tough month in terms of road games against division opponents and a trip west against three teams that are expected to be very good in the Western Conference. By the end of the month, the Bruins are going to need the break.
