Four players in Boston Bruins history have recorded 1000 points. It's an unsurprising list that includes a bunch of players with their numbers in the rafters and one who will have his added on December 1, as Ray Bourque, Johnny Bucyk, Patrice Bergeron, and Phil Esposito headline the list. While there have been some other legendary players to wear the black and gold, the only player set to join that group for at least the next decade is David Pastrnak.
Pastrnak has quickly become a veteran in the NHL, entering his age-30 season, but you don't realize how long he has been with the Bruins until seeing that he is just 67 points shy of the 1000-point mark. The only time the Czech superstar didn't record at least 67 points in a season was the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 season, and he will likely get there again barring an injury or another world pandemic.
If Pastrnak gets to 79 points, he will climb into fourth on the list over Bucyk, and if he can find another 110-point season as he did in back-to-back seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24, he will jump Bergeron and find himself in third. The relatively injury-free Pastrnak has plenty of good years left in him, and a couple of more 100-point seasons in his early 30s will set him up nicely to one day pass Bourque and be the team's all-time leading scorer.
How high will David Pastrnak climb?
It'll be extremely interesting to see how high Pastrnak can climb in the all-time rankings if he does pass Bourque one day. The ex-Bruins defenseman finished his career in 13th on the all-time points list, and there's reason to believe that Pastrnak can shatter Bourque's records. There are some active players ahead of Pastrnak who will likely finish ahead of him, such as Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon, and Nikita Kucherov, but there's no reason why he couldn't at least challenge the top-10 in NHL history as it currently stands.
A big deciding factor in Pastrnak's scoring future could come in his chemistry with new acquisition JJ Peterka. If the German forward makes an impact on the team and becomes a valuable linemate to Pastrnak, the connection could be very favorable for Pastrnak's point totals. He may not be the Bergeron and Brad Marchand perfection line that gave Pastrnak so many of his points, but it is another level of talent that he didn't have in his 100-point year last season.
