Training camps begin in the middle of September, and this year, the league is moving from an 84-game schedule to an 82-game schedule. The preseason schedule is being cut down from six games to four to move the extra two games to the regular season.

Four preseason games are going to be played in less than a week before things begin for real for the Black and Gold in late September. Here is a breakdown of the Bruins' schedule in September and October.

Before we break down the first five weeks of Boston's season, here is your friendly reminder that the Bruins are going to be without Charlie McAvoy for the first six games of the regular season as he serves his six-game suspension for his slash on Zach Benson at the end of last spring's Game 6 loss to the Buffalo Sabres that ended Boston's season.

As for the rest of McAvoy's teammates, they will kick things off on Opening Night at home against the Rangers before a road trip on back-to-back nights against the Jets and Wild. Former goalie Linus Ullmark and the Senators will make an early-season visit, as will former defenseman Andrew Peeke with the Mammoth.

McAvoy will return in time for a four-game road trip that will begin with the first of two games against the Sharks in Northern California. San Jose will visit the TD Garden 11 nights later. After stops against the Ducks and Kings, the trip ends against the Stars in Texas. Boston will close out the month of October on Halloween with an afternoon game against the Blackhawks at home.
