After a long search for the next coach of the Boston Bruins, general manager Don Sweeney settled on former Bruin Marco Sturm. It didn't come as much of a surprise as he had been rumored to be Sweeney's guy before it became official.
In one of the more surprising decisions that came out a week later at the press conference when Sturm was introduced, Sweeney said that assistant coaches Chris Kelly, Jay Leach, and goalie coach Bob Essensa were to be retained on Sturm's staff. There was going to be one assistant coach hired, and Sturm wanted someone who was going to run the power play as an assistant. On Friday, the Bruins found their guy.
Boston announced that Steve Spott was being hired as an assistant coach. He worked with the Dallas Stars and ran their power play, while he has had other stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, and Vegas Golden Knights.
“I’m thrilled to add Steve Spott to our coaching staff, and also welcome him, his wife Lisa, and their children, Tyler and Emma, to Boston,” said Sturm. “Steve is a passionate teacher, a strong communicator, and brings great structure and detail to everything he does. His experience, especially on special teams, will be a major asset for our group and for the Bruins moving forward.”
Brad Marchand trolling has no end
It's safe to say that after being traded to the Florida Panthers, Brad Marchand has fit right in. He was a big reason why they were able to win their second straight Stanley Cup championship on Tuesday night with a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Since winning the Cup, Marchand has been on a heater, trolling.
Marchand, on his social media account, trolled other NHL organizations for letting players go to the Panthers, which helped them win the Cup. He is scheduled to be a free agent this summer, and there are a number of rumors on where he could end up, but it is very unlikely that Boston is one of them.
