There are a lot of questions facing the Boston Bruins going into training camp next week. Questions surround the roster, where some prospects might fit in, as well as whether or not there will be a captain named before the season begins on Sept. 29 against the New York Rangers at TD Garden.
If one is named, it'll come down to David Pastrnak or Charlie McAvoy. Last season, Boston played the season without a captain named after Brad Marchand was traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline in March of 2025. After not naming a captain last year, all eyes are on whether or not the Bruins will name one for the upcoming 2026-27 season. If they do and it's not McAvoy, well, he wouldn't be upset.

Second-year head coach Marco Sturm discussed the possibility of naming a captain on Wednesday at the Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament in Plymouth, Mass, per Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
“We’re still in the process. It’s been a lot of chatting, a lot of communication, but I think it’s always better when everyone comes back, and back in Boston, back in the same place, and sit down at one table,” said Sturm.
We'll see where the process goes this week.
Matthew Poitras is at Warrior Ice Arena
Matthew Poitras is still unsigned, but he was on the ice at Warrior Ice Arena for captains' practice on Thursday morning with the prospects. It remains to be seen what happens with his future, but a former teammate of his with the Guelph Storm, Braeden Bowman, signed a six-year deal with an AAV of $3.4 million with the Vegas Golden Knights. His salary is $1 million, with a $2.4 million signing bonus in 2026-27 and Years 2-6 at a $3.4 million AAV. We'll see if this has any effect on what happens with Poitras, but with him on the ice at Warrior Ice Arena, that has to be a good sign, no?

- NESN has reached contract extensions with analyst Andy Brickley, studio host Sophia Jurksztowicz, and reporter Adam Pellerin ahead of the 2026-27 season. Judd Sirott will be back for his third-year as play-by-play broadcaster, replacing Jack Edwards.
- According to Mark Divver of New England Hockey Journal, the Providence Bruins will play the Springfield Thunderbirds in a pair of American Hockey League (AHL) preseason games later this month. The first game will be in Providence on Sept. 25, and the return game will be one night later in Springfield. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
