Last night, in their 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins’ rookie forward Trent Frederic was injured in the first period after blocking a shot. Nothing was said about Frederic’s injury until the second intermission where it was announced that he had a lower-body injury and was questionable to return.

While Frederic being banged up just in the slightest isn’t great, it’s a good sign that he was ruled as questionable to return to the game instead of being ruled out. This may be an indicator of just how minor or serious the injury is.

However, there is a chance that Freddy could miss some time, although the next two games being postponed is a generally good thing for his case.

But, if he is going to miss time, should the B’s rely on veterans such as Anton Blidh, Sean Kuraly, and Greg McKegg to fill his spot or should they call up a prospect to give them a look?

Jakub Lauko deserves a look from the Boston Bruins.

If it were up to me, Frederic’s spot would be filled by prospect Jakub Lauko. Lauko has been excelling down in the AHL and, although only 20 years old, is deserving of a call up and look.

Lauko, through 12 AHL games, has scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He has shown great growth and improvement from last season despite missing a lot of time due to an injury.

While I don’t think there’s a very good chance that Lauko is called up if Frederic has to miss time, I do think there’s a slight chance with Boston’s record of calling up prospects and giving them chances.

Just this season, the Black and Gold have played several rookies or just inexperienced players such as Jack Studnicka, Trent Frederic, Jakub Zboril, Jack Ahcan, Oskar Steen, and Zach Senyshyn.

So, while there isn’t the greatest chance for Lauko to get called up, there is the minuscule chance that it happens. If it does, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lauko gets in the lineup for a game or two.
