Boston Bruins‘ 2018 third-round pick Jakub Lauko has been on a tear so far this season in the AHL and he’s quickly moving up their prospect depth chart.
In six games for Providence this season, Lauko has scored two goals and four assists for six games. Recording a point per game is a huge improvement over his totals last season of just five goals and four assists for nine points in 22 games.
Lauko’s increased production is a welcomed surprise for the Black and Gold as he missed most of last season due to an MCL injury, so this type of production wasn’t expected.
Lauko has a history of being able to produce a lot of points as he was nearly a point-per-game player in his one year in junior hockey and is also around a point per game in the younger leagues in the Czech Republic.
Jakub Lauko’s play may force him over some other Boston Bruins’ prospects.
At just 20 years old and in just his second season of professional hockey, Lauko’s play is extremely promising and may force the B’s to look at him more closely.
Because of his age and contract status we could see Lauko in the NHL before a guy like Zach Senyshyn. Senyshyn has also been producing at a point-per-game pace, but his waiver status may be holding him back from getting a call up.
Lauko has been slotting in as the P-Bruins top left wing this season, so if he were to get called up guys like Sean Kuraly, Trent Frederic, Anders Bjork, Nick Ritchie, Jake DeBrusk, and even Greg McKegg would have to be unable to play.
As I said, Lauko is still very young at just 20 years old. Him producing at a point-per-game pace at such a young age and in just his second season of professional hockey is incredible.
If he continues to produce at this rate, we could see Lauko in the AHL this season. But, again this will probably only happen if there are several injuries to players that can play left wing on Boston.
