Boston Bruins  Danton Heinen To Entry Level Contract As Offseason Begins

The Boston Bruins have signed 2014 fourth round draft pick Danton Heinen to an NHL entry level contract. The young Canadian forward has spent the last two seasons playing college hockey in Denver where he has shined in both his freshman, as well as his sophomore campaigns.

As a freshman at Denver, Danton Heinen earned NCHC Rookie of the Year honors and won the conference’s scoring title. He posted an impressive 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points in 40 games and immediately started garnering attention from Bruins fans, media, and management alike. In his sophomore season, Heinen had an even more impressive season, scoring 20 goals and adding 28 assists for 48 points along with a plus-19 rating in 41 games. His impressive scoring totals in the 2015-16 season earned him first-team All-NCHC honors as well as an entry level contract from the Boston Bruins.

Danton Heinen has a leadership pedigree to his name as well as he was the captain of the Surrey Eagles in the BCHL prior to being drafted. In his draft year, Heinen posted 29 goals and 33 assists for a team-leading 62 points in just 57 games. Heinen has shown at every level that he’s played at so far that he can take over the game and lead his teammates to success; his next step will be in the AHL as he joined the Providence Bruins for their playoff run on an ATO.

Danton Heinen is 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds. His size is something that was questionable in his draft year as he was previously listed as roughly 161 pounds, but Heinen has clearly taken the necessary measures to gaining muscle that will do nothing but help him at the professional level.

It isn’t every day that a player gets drafted 116th overall in the NHL draft and makes it to the NHL, but Heinen has as good a chance as anyone to make the Bruins next season; not only because of their uncertainty moving forward with their roster, but as a result of his hard work and skillset as well.
