Boston Bruins Friday Feature: Eriksson’s Break-Away Secures Win

This past week the Boston Bruins have proved to the fans and all of the NHL why they deserve a playoff spot. Winning four out of the last five games, the Bruins have improved their game and are holding onto the second wild card spot for the Eastern Conference. Sitting six points ahead of the Florida Panthers, the Bruins must continue on their winning streak to hold onto their lead – especially since they have two upcoming games against the Panthers.

For the first time in months, there were a lot of key plays this week that brought the fans to their feet. Milan Lucic got his 200th assist, Ryan Spooner scored two goals in his hometown, Ottawa, and Marchand continued to prove his worth with a few timely goals. However, one goal stands out as highlight reel worthy and is this week’s Friday Feature.

The B’s headed to Ottawa looking to notch two more points. After a scoreless first period, Spooner put the B’s on the board at 1:02 in the second. About 14 minutes later, Louis Eriksson made a beautiful play that would eventually lead to the game winning goal.

Breaking through the neutral zone, Eriksson robbed Senators defenseman Cody Ceci of a loose puck, maneuvered past Ceci to the goal and slid the puck past the diving goaltender, Craig Anderson. It was Eriksson’s 17th goal of the season and boy did he make it count. In a must-win game against the trailing Senators, he made the game winning goal one to remember. Ryan Spooner would seal the deal just 1:32 later with his second of the night. The Bruins went on to win 3-1, continuing their positive month that is beginning to be reminiscent of last year’s incredible March.

The B’s will face the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Saturday at 1pm EST. Keeping the momentum going by using their new found speed, energy and production will have the Bruins sailing into a postseason.
