Throwback Thursday: Boston Bruins Achieve a Near Perfect March

With all of the bad luck, disappointing losses and untimely injuries that the Boston Bruins have had over the past few weeks, reminiscing about a time when they were on top could give the team some much needed positive energy. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at spring 2014 when the B’s achieved an almost perfect record for the month of March.

In 2014, the Bruins had a powerful, productive team that helped lead them to winning the President’s Trophy. In February, they were in good standing, but were still 5 points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tallying a record of 15-1-1 for the month of March all but clinched their spot at the top of the league. They would later secure the President’s Trophy on April 12th with a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Thanks to some productive forwards, effective defense and two aces in the net – Tuukka Rask and Chad Johnson –  the Bruins were able to take 15 of their 17 games in March 2014. Although all players contributed to their successful month, one player stood out as the first star. Former first line winger, Jerome Iginla, notched an impressive 13 goals in March, which help lead the team to the top seed spot.

Although they went on to lose to the Montreal Candiens in the second round of the playoffs, last years’ Bruins were a team to be celebrated. Unfortunately, losing a few key players in the offseason and suffering from MANY unfortunate injuries, the Bruins are struggling to stay alive this year. Thinking back to this milestone month – sending positive thoughts and good karma their way – we can all hope that they come out of March with similar success. Hey, they’ve shocked us many times before so anything is possible.
