The Celtics could leave TD Garden, and it could mean a nostalgic Bruins change

TD Garden could one day have the Bruins as the lone occupant, and that could mean a dose of nostalgia for fans.

The TD Garden used to be the true home of the Boston Bruins, with its gold seats letting opposing teams know what they were about to face. The last time Bruins fans sat in the iconic gold seats was Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which didn't end on a great note. By the time the 2019-20 season rolled around, TD Garden was a soulless black-seated venue made more for comfort than nostalgia.

It made sense to change the chairs to a more neutral black color. The Bruins, in black and gold, share the arena with the green-and-gold Boston Celtics, which made TD Garden feel out of place for the Celtics' color scheme. However, recent developments with the NBA organization have fans dreaming once more of an arena that more closely reflects the NHL team.

The new Celtics ownership still has a lease with TD Garden until 2036, but they are looking ahead to potentially getting their own NBA stadium when that lease runs out, according to NESN. This could make the Bruins the main occupant instead of co-inhabitants, allowing the arena to reflect more of their identity.

""No, but I do think we need to have an arena that is consistent with the quality and excellence of the Celtics. We need to create the best fan and player experience we can. Do we need to own the building to do that? No...If we need to own the building to do it, we'll do that.""
Bill Chisholm

It seems like a perfect marriage of ideas for both ownership groups, as the Celtics are also considering having their own arena instead of sharing. If Chisholm and the Celtics really want, they could have their own arena with green and gold seats, and the respective bull gangs will be happy with not having to switch back and forth from the ice to the parquet.

Of course, the Bruins will still be leasing TD Garden if the Celtics do decide to build their own arena. Delaware North won't be able to change the seats back to gold just because the Bruins are the only sports team, as other factors are at play. However, Jeremy Jacobs is the Chairman and CEO of Delaware North, meaning the Bruins will have some preference in the decision-making.

We are still 10 years away from the Celtics potentially moving out of TD Garden, but fans could look forward to the gold seats. With the new black seats being 16 years old when the Bruins potentially become the lone tenants, it'll be time for a refresh.
