After beginning a four-game road trip with a 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night in Northern California, the Boston Bruins hopped on a flight to Southern California for a couple of days off before back-to-back games this weekend against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night and the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.
The win in San Jose improved the Black and Gold to 5-2-0 on the young season, which is surprising after they played the first six games of the season with top defenseman Charlie McAvoy. He returned to the lineup after a 4-2-0 start to the season against the Sharks and scored one of Boston's six goals.
However, a big reason why the Bruins are in the position they're in is because of goalie Jeremy Swayman and some surprise depth scoring that second-year head coach Marco Sturm got. If the Bruins are going to get more points in the remaining games on the trip, they are going to need to get more what was mentioned about, mainly against the Ducks on Friday night.
Boston Bruins look to end five-game losing streak to Ducks
Boston kicked off the trip, ending a three-game losing streak to the Sharks, and now will look to end a five-game losing streak to the Ducks. Easier said than done. The recent Boston/Anaheim matchups have been frustrating, to say the least for the Black and Gold.
Take last year, for instance. Losing two games to Anaheim was nothing to be upset about, as they had a great season under coach Joel Quenneville. The matchup up in Boston was about as frustrating as a game there was last season, and that's saying a lot about some of the games they lost in 2025-26.
Anaheim scored seven goals last October at the TD Garden in a 7-5 win. Every time the Bruins tried to make a comeback, the Ducks had an answer. Then, a month later in California, the Ducks picked up a 4-3 win to complete their second straight season sweep. Boston's last win was on Oct. 22, 2023, 3-1.
Going into Friday night's matchup, the Bruins are looking to end a five-game losing streak, which isn't going to be easy. They should be ready for an angry Ducks team, which is 4-2-0 and coming off a 4-2 home loss to the previously winless Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. Talk about a trap game if there was ever one.
Boston has been one of the pleasant surprise teams this season and can look to take another step in continuing their torrid start to the season, but they'll have to do it against a good, but upset team on their home ice. Easier said than done.
