Before the Boston Bruins embarked on a two-game road trip last week, Bleacher Report was buying into the hot start that the Black and Gold had to the season and vaulted them up to No. 1 in their latest Power Rankings.
After those were relased, they proceeded to lose both games to the Carolina Hurricanes and St. Louis Blues by being outscored 6-2 combined in both games. However, Marco Sturm's club returned to the friendly confines of the TD Garden for a pair of games against the Chicago Blackhawks and Vegas Golden Knights and ended up needing extra time to win both.
Boston rallied late in the third period with a pair of goals from Mason Lohrei and Morgan Geekie to force overtime against Chicago before Elias Lindholm scored on a breakaway. Then, on Monday night, the Bruins grabbed a 2-0 lead before the Golden Knights rallied to tie the game in the third period. The game went to a shootout before David Pastrnak ended it with the only goal of the shootout for the 3-2 victory.
Lyle Fitzsimmons of Bleacher Report released his latest Power Rankings, and to nobody's surprise, he dropped the Bruins, but not as far as you might think.
Bruins slide three spots in the latest Bleacher Report power rankings
Fitzsimmons moved Boston down three slots to just No. 4 after splitting their four games since his last release of power rankings. The Hurricanes moved up to No. 1, followed by the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild. As for the Bruins, here is what he wrote,
"The Bruins kept October momentum into November, defeating Vegas on Monday for their sixth straight home win. Boston hasn't lost at the TD Garden since October 5. The team's 29 home wins last season were tied for the top in the league.''
Boston has a home-heavy month of November on tap, with nine of their 11 games at the TD Garden. They began the stretch with a win over Vegas, but things are going to get much more difficult as the month goes on, with some of the top teams scheduled to come to town. The Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, and Wild are all on the November slate, as are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jake DeBrusk, and the Vancouver Canucks.
The two roads for the Bruins are Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and a couple of weeks later, they will visit former teammate Viktor Arvidsson and the Detroit Red Wings.
