The Boston Bruins went young on Monday night in a tough loss to the Ottawa Senators, inserting Frederic Brunet and Matthew Poitras into the lineup to have five players in the lineup who are 24 or younger. If the front office continues leaning on the youth, a massive addition to that age group would be Simon Edvinsson from the Detroit Red Wings, and the Bruins have the pieces to get a deal done.

The Red Wings want players who can help them immediately, and Mason Lohrei has had a great start to the season, which was somewhat halted by a poor game against the Senators. The hope is that it is just a small blip on his radar, but if not, the Bruins might want to return to exploring the trade market for him, as they did last season.

If the Bruins are going to sell high on Lohrei, the Red Wings would want to acquire him as someone who can play some minutes on their blue line. There is potential for Lohrei to return to the player who disappointed Marco Sturm to the point that, last season, he was a healthy scratch in both the regular season and playoffs, and if you can use him in a deal to land a player like Edvinsson, Don Sweeney has to do it.

If the Pavel Zacha contract talks really aren't going anywhere, there should be no issue with including him in a deal that lands you a 23-year-old defenseman. The Bruins risk overpaying Zacha and having last season be his peak. There are players in the organization who can take his spot, and his early returns through four games this season could be showing signs of regression.

In this trade proposal, the Red Wings get two players who can help them now, including a left-shot defenseman to replace Edvinsson and a center who could replace Dylan Larkin if the former captain does get traded. The Bruins can replace Zacha internally, get younger, and form a great first pairing with Edvinsson and Charlie McAvoy.

Marco Sturm is starting to play the youth more, and this trade adds another player under 24, along with this offseason's addition of JJ Peterka. It also doesn't trade away Dean Letourneau or Will Zellers, who are two players that the team may also add at the end of this college season. It could be a trade that makes the veteran core question their short-term contention, but it does set the organization up much better long-term.
