When Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney traded franchise icon Brad Marchand at the trade deadline in March of 2025, it signaled the end of an era in Boston for one of their longest-tenured players.
It also sparked rejoicing in Toronto with the Maple Leafs after the one Boston player trolls their Leafs whenever he gets the chance. However, Marchand stayed in the Atlantic Division with the Florida Panthers. That might be the second-worst-case scenario for Toronto fans. They just can't get rid of him. He'll haunt them until the day he retires. Marchand will likely haunt them when his playing days are done.
The 2026-27 NHL season is a month away, but for Marchand, his season is likely going to be delayed. He recently announced that he underwent surgery. How that affects his playing time in the upcoming season remains to be seen. Despite being down and likely out for a while, it hasn't stopped Marchand from trolling his favorite franchise that he likes to poke fun at, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Brad Marchand continues to troll the Maple Leafs
Just when you thought the fun between Marchand and the Maple Leafs was over, guess again. Toronto forward William Nylander was working out with some weights while on one foot, and Marchand didn't miss his opportunity. On the NHL Instagram post, Marchand wrote, "Don't hurt yourself with all that weight, willy.''
There are a lot of battles on the ice, but there is nothing off the ice like Brad Marchand trolling the Toronto Maple Leafs. This isn't his best one, which may have happened after the Black and Gold's Game 7 overtime win in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, when he said the following: "#BeLeaf", rather than believing following the game. For context, Toronto's been using the hashtag "#BeLeaf" to believe that the Maple Leafs would finally exorcise their postseason demons against their Atlantic Division rivals and finally beat them in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
You can bet it doesn't have to be the Spoked-B that on the front of Marchand's chest for Maple Leafs fans to boo him every time he touches the puck in Toronto. The Cat on the front of the Panthers uniform will do just fine.

Maple Leafs fans' first opportunity to boo him will be on Dec. 3 when Florida makes their first appearance at Scotiabank Arena. It remains to be seen if he's in the lineup, recovering from surgery, and if he is, Maple Leafs fans' next chance will be March 15. Oh, the drama.
