Boston Bruins veteran forward reportedly drawing some trade interest in thin market

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

One month into the 2026-27 NHL regular season, some teams are already looking for additions through the trade market with forwards. There are also teams looking to add depth and talent on the backend on defense.

However, aside from the blockbuster last week that sent goalie Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets to the New Jersey Devils, trades like that are likely going to be few and far between this early in the season. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reported that the Ottawa Senators are looking for some help at forward.

The problem with that is that there are not too many options. Garroich floated a few names that are out there, but according to Garroich, a league executive, told the sports scribe, "There isn't a lot out there."

Garrioch mentioned names reportedly being floated as potentially available: Teuvo Teräväinen of the Chicago Blackhawks; Michael Rasmussen and Andrew Copp of the Detroit Red Wings; and Mikey Eyssimont of the Boston Bruins.

Bruins forward in the AHL, Mikey Eyssimont, is reportedly being floated about in trade rumors

It's not surprising that Eyssimont's name is out there. Unless an injury occurs, there just isn't any room for him on the Boston roster, with the young players playing so well and breaking through the door early this season. Eyssimont had a good camp and played very well in the preseason games he played in, but he became a casualty of the roster crunch for second-year head coach Marco Sturm.

He began the season as the extra forward out of training camp, but that was only because Matthew Poitras was on injured reserve. When Poitras was cleared to return, Eyssimont was placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL). He cleared waivers and has been tearing it up for first-year P-Bruins coach Trent Whitfield.

In six games, the former Tampa Bay Lightning, Seattle Kraken, Winnipeg Jets, and San Jose Sharks forward has nine goals and one assist in just six games. Eyssimont is near the top of the AHL in goals already and is going to draw interest around the league to get another shot in the NHL.

Sturm spoke about him earlier this week and said that he's just an injury away from being back in the NHL in Boston. However, you wonder how much longer he'll be part of the organization, as he is in the final year of the two-year contract he signed in the summer of 2025. This is worth keeping an eye on going forward.
