Early in the second period on Monday night at the TD Garden, Boston Bruins forward Matthew Poitras was chasing the puck down in center ice when he took an elbow to the face from Braaeden Bowman of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Bowman was hit with a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play. Morgan Geekie scored a power-play goal during the five-minute man advantage to double the Black and Gold lead to 2-0 in what turned into a 3-2 shootout victory when David Pastrnak scored the deciding goal in the shootout for a key extra point in the standings. Poitras returned at the end of the second period with a bubble over his face, but did not take another shift in the game.
After the game, head coach Marco Sturm didn't have an update on his young fourth-line center. Poitras wasn't at practice on Tuesday, and according to Sturm, he is scheduled to see a doctor to determine what happens next. Sturm hopes he can travel to Pittsburgh for Thursday night's game against the Penguins.

As for Bowman, Frank Seravalli reported that Bowman will not receive any discipline from the NHL for the hit.
Morgan Geekie has funnt quote after Vegas win
For the second straight game, Geekie found the back of the net, this time on the power play against the Golden Knights. After the win, he joked with the media that he still trails his brother, Conor, who has goals in three games in a row, so he has some catching up to do.
Honestly, I was just trying to catch my brother [Conor Geekie]. He’s got three in a row,” Geekie said, per Belle Fraser of BostonBruins.com. “We don’t really text each other about it. It’s our brother in between us that kind of lets both of us hear it. So it’s good. It’s lots of fun, and obviously, it adds a little lighter aspect to everything.”
It is important that Geekie continues to score because if he can start finding the net with consistency, it gives the Black and Gold another threat on the ice.
Marco Sturm liked Bruins third period vs. Vegas
Boston took a 2-1 lead into the third period, and this year, the Bruins have been fairly good in the third period, especially with a lead. Trevor Connelly tied the game 2-2 with an even-strength goal, but despite that, Sturm was pleased with his team's final 20 minutes against the defending Western Conference champs.
“In general, I liked it,'' said Sturm, per BostonBruins.com. "Why? There was nothing going on. If you play (Vegas) five-on-five there’s nothing going on, that's OK. Unfortunately they scored and then after that there was nothing going on. So I take that as a win for sure.”
Staying 5-on-5 was key throughout the game, as the Golden Knights scored one of their two goals on the power play in the second period. However, Boston killed off two other Charlie McAvoy penalties in the game, which was huge in the game getting to overtime and the shootout.
