The Boston Bruins begin training camp later this month at Warrior Ice Arena, and the 2026-27 season begins in less than a month when the New York Rangers come to town for Opening Night on Sept. 29.
The NHL Network has been releasing its top players at each position, and now they are on to the Top 50 players overall; two Bruins players cracked the 41-50 list: Jeremy Swayman and Charlie McAvoy. As the list gets down to the top players, the Black and Gold will likely have one more player, David Pastrnak, crack the list somewhere. However, The Athletic released its Top 150 players over multiple tiers, and three Bruins cracked the list.
The Athletic's NHL writers, Harman Dayal, Thomas Drance, Sean Gentille, Shayna Goldman, and Dom Luszczyszyn, dropped 150 players into tiers, and Pastrnak cracked the first tier (top-10 players), the MVP tier. Landing in the third tier (top-60 players) were McAvoy and Swayman, the All-Star tier.
In the overall big picture, it isn't surprising where any of the three Bruins players ended up, and they will be three players looked at to lead them into a season where they hope it will end with another berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Two Bruins prospects were tabbed captains in college
If you're surprised that the NHL is back this month, you shouldn't be surprised that college hockey is right around the corner as well. Boston will have some prospects beginning another season in college, and two were named alternate captains for the 2026-27 season.
Third-round 2023 draft pick Christopher Pelosi and fourth-round 2024 draft pick Elliott Groenewold were named alternate captains for Quinnipiac, serving under captain Mason Marcellus, who is undrafted. The Bobcats made the NCAA Tournament last year and will be looking to do so again this season.
Last season, Pelosi, a forward, had 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points, while Groenewold, a defenseman, had seven goals and 27 points.
Matthew Poitras remains unsigned
We are a couple of days into September, and Matthew Poitras remains unsigned. It's been said before and should be pointed out again, but the longer he remains unsigned, the more nervous it could get for Bruins fans. It feels like there is some roadblock that both sides refuse to give in on. It's hard to imagine that he isn't signed at some point or traded; however, if he was going to be traded, you figured it would have happened by now. Some big decisions are looming sooner rather than later.
