Some of the Boston Bruins prospects traveled to Buffalo this weekend to take part in the Prospect Showcase in two games against Buffalo's prospects. It is the unofficial start to the NHL season with all training camps opening later this week.
For the Black and Gold, there are going to be few roster spots for some of the prospects, and they get a start ahead of training camp to make an impression. After two games in Buffalo that Boston won 6-2 and 4-3 in overtime, here are four Bruins prospects who opened some eyes this weekend in both games under new Providence Bruins coach Trent Whitfield.
James Hagens
As if he needed to impress much more than he already has, but top prospect James Hagens had a good weekend in Western New York. The seventh overall pick of the 2025 Entry Draft, Hagens scored two goals in the opener on Sunday night. As if he needed to make more of an impression, he had four goals on Monday. He is going to enter training camp on Thursday with a shot to make the Opening Night roster.
Hagens got his feet wet at the end of the regular season last season and in the playoffs, but there is a path to him being blocked from making the NHL roster this season by a bunch of bottom-six forwards. He could end up being one player who benefits from Chris Kreider signing with the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Dans Locmelis
Last season, rising prospect Dans Locmelis suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery. However, he's fully healthy now and he is going to be someone to keep an eye on when training camp begins. If you think Hagens chances are difficult to make the roster for Opening Night, it's going to even that much more tougher for Locmelis.
Locemlis had a goal in the opener against the Sabres and drew the praise of Trent Whitfield after Sunday's game. He'll likely get a shot in a couple of preseason games for Marco Sturm, but even if he starts the season in Providence, there's a chance he'll be up at some point in 2026-27.
Attilio Biasca
One of the more interesting free-agent signings over the offseason was Attilio Biasca. After playing in Switzerland, Biasca wasted little time making an impact in North America. He scored the first goal of the game on Sunday, just 25 seconds into the game. What a way to make a first impression in game action.
As for the upcoming season, Biasca will liekly begin the season with Providence, but given the major roster turnover they went through this year as well, he should be one of the top forwards for Whitfield.
Max Lundgren
There has been some roster turnover between the pipes for the Bruins. Gone is Joonas Korpisalo after he was traded to the Rangers in July, which opens the door for Michael DiPietro to be Jeremy Swayman's backup this season. With DiPietro likely heading to Boston, that opens the door in the AHL and Max Lundgren is going to be fighting for the starting job down there.
On Sunday, Lundgren, who signed as an undrafted free agent last spring after his season at Merrimack College, turned back 29 shots in the win and looked good and confident.
