The Boston Bruins begin their quest for the Stanley Cup on Monday night when they take on the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of their opening round series.

The Bruins set the NHL record for the most regular season wins, recording 65 victories for a final record of 65-12-5.

As a result, the Presidents Trophy winners are the betting favorites to win their first Stanley Cup since 2011, and one bettor didn’t hesitate to place a huge sum of money on them to do exactly that.

A bettor at BetMGM Sportsbook laid down $100,000 on the Bruins to win the Cup at +375 odds. If they pull it off, it’ll win the bettor a profit of $375,000.

Let’s take a look at the full list of Stanley Cup odds.

Odds to win the Stanley Cup

Bruins attempting to avoid Presidents Trophy curse

The biggest concern for fans and bettors of the Boston Bruins isn’t the Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, or any other team in the NHL. Their biggest concern is the looming Presidents Trophy curse.

No team that has finished with the best regular season record has gone on to win the Stanley Cup since 2012-2013, when the Chicago Blackhawks achieved the feat. During that stretch, only one other team has even made the Conference Finals, the Rangers in 2014-2015.

The means eight of the last nine Presidents Trophy winner has lost in the first or second round of the playoffs. The Bruins have fallen to that curse twice in that stretch winning the Presidents Trophy but losing in the second round both in 2013-2014 and 2019-2020.

The curse goes back event further, with only two Presidents Trophy winners going on to win the Cup since the lockout season of 2004-2005.

With the curse looming over the Bruins, the big bettor shouldn’t be counting his winnings just quite yet, no matter how many regular season wins they had.
