It took 80 games, but the Boston Bruins wins record has been achieved. After defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 at Wells Fargo Center, they recorded win number 63. That victory passed the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning. While this is all remarkable, it did not come easy and had hurdles to climb to begin the year.

Boston Bruins Wins Record Official

The Boston Bruins secured the win record and in style. David Pastrnak capped off a hat trick while also hitting the 60-goal mark. Jeremy Swayman secured his 23rd victory of the season. Just a magnificent way to hit the win record and do it with games remaining. Given the era of hockey, we see today, this is an incredible achievement, but the road to 63 was much greater.

The Early Hurdles

When you enter the season with a new coach, you never know what to expect. Jim Montgomery came in with previous experience and inherited a roster that had previously made the playoffs six years in a row. New faces were seen with Pavel Zacha in the fold, but the faces out to start the year was eye-opening. To begin the new season, Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy, and Matt Grzelcyk would miss over a month of time. The goal was to simply tread water enough until the big guns returned to the lineup. They did more than tread water.

All three were in the lineup by November 10. In that time frame, the Boston Bruins went 11-2. That was a huge statement being able to do that without those guys. The rest is history.

The Historic Accolades Along The Way

The historic season for the Boston Bruins continued on. They had the leagues best record since the start of December and finally clinched the Presidents Trophy. It would be the fourth time the organization has won the trophy. In addition, Boston would become the fourth-fastest team to clinch the trophy.

Other fun historic moments for the Bruins is they became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 100 points and 50 wins. The best part about this piece of history; they became the fastest team to clinch a playoff berth. It’s just been a remarkable season for the Boston Bruins.

The Winningest Team In The Regular Season

The Boston Bruins wins record is finally achieved. In what could be the final call for Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, this feels special. Even after clinching a playoff spot, winning the presidents trophy, they still had something to play for. In addition to building chemistry after the trade deadline, the team was chasing history. And that history would be made. In a gauntlet of a schedule in March, to cap off the regular season like this is remarkable.

The Boston Bruins are your new NHL wins record team in the regular season. With that all said and done, the bigger prize is on the line.  Boston does have two more games left and can become the all time points leader for the regular season. The club returns to action Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals.
