Last night was a great win not only for the team but also for the head coach. Head Coach Jim Montgomery earned his 100th victory as a head coach. In addition, it came against the last team he served as a head coach for; the Dallas Stars. His Jack Adams-worthy season continues as the Boston Bruins remain at the top of the league.

Head Coach Jim Montgomery Earns 100th Victory

It is never easy to step in and take over a team, let alone fill the shoes of the guy prior.  Bruce Cassidy instilled success the moment he stepped behind the bench, but a change was necessary. Jim Montgomery has done that and more. He has the Boston Bruins playing their best hockey and has them on a magical run this season. Montgomery was successful prior to coming to Boston and the results have shown in their play.

Montgomery Career

Head Coach Jim Montgomery was not only a player in this league but also a coach with experience. He was a prior coach for the Dallas Stars in 2018-19 and 2019-20 before being dismissed for off-ice-related issues. In his first season in Dallas, they finished with a 43-32-7 record and made the playoffs. The following year, he coached 32 games and had a 17-11-3 record before being on the way out. Montgomery had instant success and it followed him with his time in Boston.

He has a way with the younger players. In addition, Montgomery is a players coach, and listening to his interview on Spittin Chiclets he made that very clear. Montgomery served as an assistant with the St Louis Blues and had time running their power play. He saw time working with young guns Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou who are now core pieces to the Blues lineup going forward. As you’ve seen now, you have young guys in Jake DeBrusk, Trent Frederic, Connor Clifton, and Derek Forbort who have had stronger showing under Montgomery than last season.
