The Boston Bruins are the best team in the league so pointing out any areas for improvement could be considered nitpicking but adding players at the deadline is crucial for teams looking to make a long playoff run. The Bruins have been widely mentioned in trade rumors regarding players around the league. let’s look at some possible deals that the Bruins might consider making.

Boston Brings Back Old Friend

The St. Louis Blues have really fallen from grace. They currently sit at 23-22-3 which is good for 6th in their division. If the Blues don’t right the ship soon they could look to sell at the deadline and they have plenty of rental options for teams to go after. That being said, the Bruins should go after Noel Acciari. Putting Acciari in the Bottom six could help stabilize the scoring in that group. The Rhode Island native has 18 points in 47 games and his physicality would be a welcome addition to this squad. That is 10 more points that Craig Smith with 14 more games played. Since Acciari isn’t a big name with the price tag to match he might be a cheap acquisition at the deadline.

Trade 2024 5th round pick and Jack Ahcan to St. Louis for Noel Acciari.

Bruins send Coyle to Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks are a poorly run organization, to say the least. Rumors are swirling about Bo Horvat’s impending free agency and with the vision that Vancouver’s front office, trading Horvat would guarantee a return for Vancouver to continue their “re-build”.  The Bruins could package Charlie Coyle and Prospect Fabian Lysell and maybe a 2025 fourth-round pick for Horvat. The Bruins would get another center that fits in with the rest of the core the front office is trying to lock up. Coyle would match the numbers on the contract and Lysell would offer Vancouver a piece to build around. Bruins fans need to know that this is the deal that will have to be done for most of the players that have been connected to Boston.

Horvat scored 31 goals last year and already has 30 this year so far and he would be a great addition to this lineup. It does go without saying though that the Bruins front office probably isn’t looking for a major splash in the trade market the word around the block is that the Bruins and Vancouver have gotten pretty deep in trade talks for the All-Star center. If the Bruins were to make the move for Horvat, it would be seen as the Bruins preparing for the future without Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci who could be on their final run. Following a trade for Horvat, I would expect an extension of some sort to be at least negotiated between the parties involved.

Trade: Charlie Coyle, and Fabian Lysell to Vancouver for Bo Horvat.

Bruins Trade for Toews

As mentioned previously, Jonathan Toews could waive his no-trade clause if he wants to try and win another Stanley cup. I’m not here to contemplate the good and the bad about trading for the source of childhood trauma as the captain that was on the other side of that dreadful 2013 cup final loss Ryan did already. But if he were to somehow make his way to the Boston Bruins and help win a cup, I might forgive him. The Blackhawks would have to retain 50% of the remaining salary for Toews so that makes this even more of a longshot but they traded Alex DeBrincat so I guess anything is possible.

Trade: Bruins send Tomas Nosek, Mike Reilly, 2025 2nd and 2023 3rd round pick to Chicago for Jonathan Toews.
