Recap: Bruins defeat Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Saturday afternoon

The Boston Bruins pulled out a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday afternoon.

David Pastrnak had the game-winner early in the third period while Oskar Steen and Charlie Coyle added goals as well. Tuukka Rask made 22 saves in his second win of the season.

The Bruins moved to 24-12-2 while the Jets dropped to 17-14-6.

1st period

It was the Jets that found the back of the net first with an early goal by Jansen Harkins.

Not the best goal to let up by Tuukka as the Jets get out in front early on.

Things got testy early on and we saw Connor Clifton drop the mitts with Harkins.

The Bruins would be able to tie the game with about eight and a half left in the opening frame as Steen scored his second career goal.

Actually a goal where the puck went in off his stick. There is something brewing with that third line of Steen-Coyle-DeBrusk.

Did I mention things were tense? Another fight broke out when Brandon Carlo of all people went toe-to-toe with Austin Poganski.

However, before the end of the first 20, the Jets grabbed the lead back with some puck luck going their way.

Off the skate of Andrew Copp and in, with just 26 seconds left. Tough goal to allow at the end of the period.

2nd period

It didn’t take long for the Bruins to answer in the second.

Coyle gets a stick on a Derek Forbort shot and it ties the game. Another excellent forecheck by DeBrusk that leads to a goal.

The game remained 2-2 after two.

3rd period

Stop me if you’ve heard this before – a Pastrnak power play one-timer goal.

Pasta has been absolutely red-hot as of late and he came up with a big goal early in the third.

The defense came up big the rest of the way, as all as Rask and the Bruins held on for the 3-2 win.

Notes

• David Pastrnak is SCORCHING hot. 11 goals and three assists in the last 10 games. What slow start?
• There is something there with the third line of DeBrusk-Coyle-Steen. They are hard in on the forecheck, were disruptive today that resulted in two goals
• Regardless if it’s not with DeBrusk and Coyle, Steen needs to stay. Period. Sit Foligno. Sit Frederic. Sit Lazar (even though they shouldn’t). Steen has EARNED a spot
• DeBrusk continues to play really well. Whether he gets traded or not, it’s good for the Bruins to have perform like this
• Two fights in one period? Who are these Bruins?
• Brad Marchand, who was not at all expected to play today, casually led all Bruins forwards in TOI

10 wins out of 12 games in January. One more home game to end this stretch of matchups at the Garden before the Bruins hit the road.
