Bruins Need Marchand to Continue to Climb This List

There are no questions that the 2021 MVP during the regular season for the Boston Bruins was Brad Marchand. He finished the season with 29 goals and 40 assists in 53 games with a plus/minus of plus-26.

Through seven playoff games, Marchand has four goals and two assists for the Black and Gold. Entering tonight’s Game 3 against the New York Islanders in their best-of-seven series that is tied 1-1, the Bruins will look to bounce back from Monday night’s 4-3 overtime loss at the TD Garden.

In Monday’s loss, Marchand had the game-tieing goal in the third period on the power play to force overtime and he also had an assist on Patrice Bergeron‘s goal earlier in the same period. With the two points, the Bruins’ first-line left wing collected his 100th and 101st career postseason points, moving him into fifth place in the all-time franchise list.

Marchand is one point from passing Phil Esposito and climbing towards current teammates Bergeron and David Krejci. The Bruins certainly are going to need the 33-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to continue his postseason production.

Following the trade of Taylor Hall on April 11, the Bruins have had two lines that produced at the end of the season and in their first-round series that they won in five games over the Washington Capitals. This series, however, against the Islanders, the Black and Gold are going to need more from the first-line and Marchand.

Boston’s top-line of Marchand, Bergeron, and David Pastrnak has been good as of late, but if there’s been one consistent producer this season, it’s Marchand. After losing home-ice advantage to the Islanders, the Bruins are going to have to win at least one game on Long Island to be the East Division team that makes the semifinals. If there’s one player that can lead them and continue to climb the playoff scoring list, it’s Marchand.
