Entering Friday night’s Game 4 at the TD Garden, the Washington Capitals were looking to tie the best-of-seven series with Boston Bruins. Coming off a 3-2 double-overtime loss in Game 3 Wednesday night, the Caps felt like a confident group.

How confident? Just take one quick look at a tweet that was sent out by the origination about 15 minutes before the drop of the puck on Game 4. There was a picture of Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and it said that he was going to make it everyone’s problem.

Three hours later, that turned out to be not true. Why? Well because for another game in the series, the Black and Gold frustrated Ovechkin and his teammates to the tune of a 4-1 victory that gives Boston a 3-1 series lead heading back to Capital One Arena for Sunday night’s Game 5.

Yes, Ovechkin scored the only Washington goal in the game. It was a third-period power play goal that actually was lucky. His one-timed slap shot snapped his stick, but the puck deflected off of the skate of Boston defensemen Brandon Carlo and into the net past Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask. At the time, it cut the Capitals deficit to 3-1 with 15 minutes left in the game, but unfortunately for the Caps, it was as close as they would get.

This has not been the best series so far for Ovechkin through the first four games. He has two goals, two assists, 16 shots on the net, and a plus/minus of minus-2.  The Bruins have been physical with the Russian star, as well as paid him extra attention on the Washington power play. Friday night, Connor Clifton sacrificed the body to block two Ovi slap shots on the PP.

Heading into Game 4, the Washington Capitals Twitter account was expecting Ovechkin and his teammates to beat the Black and Gold on the road to even the series. Unfortunately for the Caps, it didn’t happen and now Washington has their backs against the wall, needing to win the final three games to advance past the Bruins.
