It took a while, but the Boston Bruins finally broke through on Saturday afternoon against New York Rangers goalie Keith Kinkaid when Nick Ritchie knocked home a puck at the side of the net off a bounce from the backboard to tie the game 1-1 late in the second period.

Early in the third period, the Bruins took advantage of some shoddy puck handling from Kinkaid to take the lead.

Boston’s leading point producer Brad Marchand stole an errant clearing attempt by a Rangers defensemen after Kinkaid lost control of the puck at the side of the net. Marchy found a streaking David Pastrnak and Pasta quickly redirected Marchand’s pass into the net for a 2-1 Bruins lead and his 20th goal of the 2021 season.

Following the goal, the Bruins Twitter sent out a perfect tweet for Pastrank’s 200th career regular-season goal 21 seconds into the final period.

Scoring career goal No. 200 has to be a relief for Pastrnak, who has struggled lately. Pasta had just five goals in the month of April and his last goal came on April 29 against the Buffalo Sabres, after starting the season on a tear when he returned from offseason surgery.

Marchand and Patrice Bergeron have been on a tear lately with goals and assists, while Pastrnak has been frustrated with getting good chances, but unable to capitalize.

That changed Saturday when he was on the right end of a good Marchand pass to bury his milestone goal. Boston is hoping that the goal can be the start of something good for Pastrnak. With his linemates producing and the production from the second line aiding the top-line, the Bruins will be a tough opponent in the first round of the playoffs if that continues.

Unfortunately for the Bruins, that would be the remaining lone bright spot in the game. The Rangers scored four straight goals in the third period for a 5-4 victory to close out their season.
