Over the past few weeks, the Boston Bruins have struggled at times. The Black and Gold have dealt with inconsistent play and injuries to key players. One player, however, who has stepped up is Brad Marchand. The Bruins winger has been a scoring machine and has 11 points in the last five games. On Tuesday night, he had four points and joined special company in the Bruins’ 4-2 victory.

Against the Philadelphia Flyers, Marchand gave Boston the lead in the third period with his 18th goal of the season. The goal came while the Bruins were shorthanded and was his 48th career shorthanded point. It broke a tie with Ed Westfall and Bobby Orr for the most in franchise history.

Additionally, Marchand is now tied for the fourth most shorthanded points in NHL history. Just like in years past, he has excelled when the Bruins are down a man. As Boston has needed a spark over the last few weeks, Marchand has provided one regardless of the situation.

As the season continues, the talented winger will be looking to continue his current play. Through 34 games, Marchand has scored 18 goals and recorded 27 assists. He is only ten goals short of matching his total from last year. Marchand also has continued to be lethal on the powerplay, where he has 15 points so far this season and leads the B’s in every offensive category.

While Marchand joined special company, his main focus is bringing another championship to Boston. The Bruins offense has struggled this season, but in four games this month, they have scored 14 goals. Over Boston’s last three games, their top trio of Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, and Marchand has been in vintage form.

In that span, the B’s top line has scored 11 goals. Although the Bruins need more from their other lines, their top line has carried the offense. As the season continues, the veteran winger will continue his climb up the record books as the Bruins chase a championship.
