On Thursday night, the Boston Bruins welcomed fans back to the TD Garden for the first time in more than a year. Although the Bruins lost in overtime, David Krejci moved closer to a career milestone. The Bruins center only has one goal this season but needs one more assist to join special company. As the Bruins look to get back in the win column Saturday afternoon, Krejci will hope to make history.
In 25 games this season, Krejci has 16 assists giving him 495 in his career. The former second-round pick currently has the eighth-most in franchise history. The Bruins center only needs one more to tie Rick Middleton for seventh as he continues to climb up the franchise leaderboards.
Although Krejci has struggled to find the back of the net, he is tied for the second-most assists on the Bruins roster. In Boston’s last two games, his playmaking abilities have been on full display as he has four assists. The 34-year-old has also been impressive on the power play, where he has nine points so far this season.
While the regular season is far from over, David Krejci has an uncertain future. At the end of the season, he will be a free agent and has said he wants to play beyond 2021. If he returns to Boston, he will have the opportunity to pass more franchise greats.
Next on the list is Wayne Cashman, who has the sixth most assists in franchise history with 516. Krejci could reach that total next season; however, what sweater he will be wearing is uncertain. Regardless of what the future holds, Krejci will at the very least be able to claim seventh place before his time in Boston is up.
Over the years, the veteran center has had many memorable moments in a Bruins sweater. Another one may happen in the coming days with fans in the stands. As the Bruins look to get back in the win column, they may also have a milestone to celebrate.
