The Boston Bruins had a week where it was a frustrating one. They went 1-2-1 and only managed three out of a possible eight points in the East Division standings.
With that said, let’s take a look back at the last four games for the Black and Gold.
Sunday vs. New Jersey
The Bruins kicked off their week last Sunday evening with a very disappointing 1-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils at the TD Garden.
Devils goalie Scott Wedgewood made 40 saves against the Bruins, with 18 coming in the third period. For the second time this season, the B’s were locked in a scoreless game with an opponent, only to lose late in the third period.
On Jan. 18, New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau broke a scoreless tie with a goal with less than five minutes remaining in the game for a 1-0 victory. Sunday night, Kyle Palmieri scored with 4:37 remaining in the game to back Wedgewood’s strong night in net for a 1-0 win. To make matters worse, Tuukka Rask went down with an undisclosed injury. Fun times.
The win snapped a five-game New Jersey losing streak. It was also the second straight regulation win for the Devils in Boston. The first one was on Feb. 18.
Tuesday at New York Islanders
It would not be an understatement to say that the Bruins are glad their regular-season trips to Uniondale are over with for this season. For the fourth time in as many trips, the Bruins lost, this time in a shootout, 2-1.
The Bruins actually grabbed a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period on a power play goal from David Pastrnak, but that was all they were able to get by Isles netminder Semyon Varlamov. Brock Nelson tied the game in the second period with a PPG.
In the previous three games, the Islanders won in regulation, but this time, the B’s secured one-point, ending regulation tied. Boston still has four games at the TD Garden coming up before the end of the season, but for now, the Isles have got the better of the Bruins in 2021.
Thursday vs New York Rangers
Two nights after suffering a loss to the Islanders, the Bruins bounced back with a 4-0 shutout of the Rangers at home.
Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Jake DeBrusk scored to back the effort of Jaroslav Halak, who made 27 saves for his 52nd career shutout.
Saturday vs. New York Rangers
Woof. This was ugly from the drop of the puck in the first period. The Rangers did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and handed the Bruins what they deserved, a loss. Not much needs to be said here.
The Bruins will hit the road this week for two games at the Pittsburgh Penguins and then two more in Buffalo against the Sabres. It can’t get much worse, can it?
