It was a split decision this week for the Providence Bruins. The Boston Bruins minor league affiliate lost 3-2 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Thursday, before bouncing back with a 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on the road at the XL Center Saturday afternoon.
Providence continues to get contributions from some familiar names. Zach Senyshyn has a five-game point streak and goalie Jeremy Swayman remains perfect in his four starts early in the 26-game shortened 2021 American Hockey League season.
Swayman turned back 27 of the 29 shots the Wolf Pack had on him Saturday. Senyshyn, Jakub Lauko, and Anton Blidh found the back of the net for the P-Bruins.
First-year pro-Jack Ahcan scored his first goal on the power play. The free-agent signee out of St. Cloud State University has been impressive in his first season in the AHL.
Senyshyn has four goals and three assists in seven games for Providence this season. His impressive start could end up going one of two ways this season. He could end up in Boston as a bottom-six forward at some point or he could be part of a trade that brings back something that Boston needs as they head towards the postseason. Time will tell.
P-Bruins fall to Bridgeport for their second loss of the season Thursday.
Against the Sound Tigers’ Thursday, Brady Lyle and Joona Koppanen scored the Providence goals. Senyshyn assisted on Lyle’s goal. Dan Vladar made 26 saves in net in a losing effort. Despite the loss, Vladar has a 1.71 goals-against average (GAA) and a .934 save percentage (SV%) in his three starts with one shutout.
Providence returns to action Tuesday when they travel back to Hartford for a 1 p.m. game against the Wolf Pack.
