The 2021 NHL season is just a month old, but the Boston Bruins and the rest of the league have seen multiple postponements because of COVID-19.
Inside the NHL headquarters, their heads must be spinning in trying to attempt to reschedule games. Games all over the place are being postponed because of the virus. As if COVID-19 is not bad enough, Mother Nature had her hand in a pair of postponements Monday and Tuesday night.
The Nashville Predators at Dallas Stars had their two-games in the Lone Star state postponed because of an ice storm that caused power outages in Texas. Just another obstacle that the NHL has to deal with.
Bruins had games rescheduled by the league on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the NHL announced the rescheduling of a handful of games across the league. The Bruins game against the New Jersey Devils that was scheduled for Monday night at the TD Garden was postponed because of the Devils COVID-19 protocols. That game has been rescheduled for March 7 at 5 p.m. The Bruins were supposed to host the Philadelphia Flyers on March 7, but that game has been pushed back to a later date to accommodate the Devils’ rescheduled game.
The good news is that the Devils played their first game since their pause on Feb. 1 Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers, winning 5-2, which means Thursday’s game in Boston should be a go.
The league also announced a change of a scheduled game for the Bruins. Their April 10 game at Washington against Zdeno Chara and the Capitals has been pushed back one day to April 11 at 7 p.m.
Flyers returned to practice Tuesday ahead of the Lake Tahoe game against the Bruins.
Philadelphia has had their own COVID-19 issues the last week, but the good news is that returned to the ice for practice Tuesday morning at their practice facility. They expect to practice again today ahead of Thursday’s scheduled home game against the New York Rangers.
If everything goes well, the Flyers will join the Bruins in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, this weekend for their outdoor game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Hopefully, we won’t have many more, if any, games to reschedule, but hey, it’s 2021 and we are glad to have hockey back.
