The Boston Bruins were scheduled to play the Buffalo Sabres beginning tonight in the first of a two-game series at the TD Garden following a 3-0-1 road trip through Washington and Philadelphia.
Those games, however, were cancelled by the NHL after the Sabres were placed in league COVID-19 protocols Tuesday and their games through Monday have been postponed.
On Saturday, the NHL announced a handful of rescheduled games, including the Bruins two with the Sabres, as well as moving other games around to make the schedule work.
Bruins revised schedule as released by the NHL.
Tonight’s game has been moved to March 27 at 1 p.m. The Bruins were scheduled to host the New York Islanders that day, but instead, that has been moved up to March 23 at 7 p.m. Monday’s scheduled game has been rescheduled for April 13 at 7 p.m. Again, the Islanders are affected by the reshuffling of the schedule as they were supposed to play the Bruins on April 13, but instead, the game has been pushed back one day to April 14 at 6 p.m.
Instead of playing the Sabres for the first two times in 2021, the Black and Gold will now get a four-day break and it might be happening at a good time for them. The four days give Matt Grzelcyk and Jake DeBrusk more time to recover from their injuries. Boston hopes to have them back in the lineup in the not too distant future.
Boston is hoping that these end up being the only schedule changes this season. It’s likely to happen again, however, as the coronavirus continues to interrupt the sports world. The NFL had to adjust some of their schedules this season, while the NBA is also going through schedule adjustments because of COVID-19.
The Bruins have the New Jersey Devils on the schedule on Feb. 15 and 18 at the TD Garden. As of now, those games are on as planned and are still over a week away. The Devils, however, like the Sabres are in the NHL COVID-19 protocols and their games have been postponed through Feb. 12. Stay tuned.
