The Boston Bruins and several other NHL hockey teams revealed the color and year their reverse retro jerseys will be replicating this afternoon.
What was once just a rumor is now becoming a reality as several NHL teams, including the Boston Bruins, gave us a sneak peek on social media of their rumored “reverse retro” jerseys this afternoon with a short seven-second video.
From the Bruins’ video, it was obvious that the 2020-21 season alternates will be gold. The jersey template also features the number 90 on the back. This represents the year — in the Bruins’ case 1990 — they’ll be modeling the jersey style from
However, this isn’t as obvious to some people as it is to others. Many fans are confused by the use of the same template by every team that revealed their year and color today.
They think that every team’s jersey will look alike besides the colors and logos. I’m here to tell you that is not true.
Every team’s reverse retro jersey will be reminiscent of the year that is on the back of the jersey in their respective video.
So for the Bruins, their reverse retro jersey will look like their jerseys from 1990, while the Minnesota Wild have a white jersey with the number 78 on the back.
This tells fans that the Wild’s reverse retro jerseys will be white and copy the style of their jerseys from 1978.
With the jersey templates in each video being the same besides the colors and numbers on the back, it’s fairly easy to think that every team’s jersey will look the same.
My opinion on the Boston Bruins having a gold reverse retro jersey.
Overall, I really like the idea of the Bruins having a gold alternate jersey. The team hasn’t had a full-time gold jersey since 2006 when they last wore the “Pooh Bear” jerseys.
Additionally, the last time the Bruins sported a gold jersey at all was for the 2010 Winter Classic when their Winter Classic jersey was gold.
I must also add, that the return of the “Pooh Bear” logo seems highly unlikely now with the jersey supposedly being modeled after the jerseys in 1990. The “Pooh Bear” logo didn’t come into existence until 1995.
What does everyone think of having a gold alternate again? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
