Patrik Laine is the perfect trade target for the Boston Bruins.

It has been over 2 weeks since the NHL Draft and Free Agency opened and it’s been an eerily quiet one for Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins front office. This has to change and a budding superstar has become available on the trade market.

Recent reports out of the Jets organization and now Patrik Laine‘s camp have clarified that both sides see a separation as the best move going forward for both sides.

This has caused a stir in the NHL world as talents like Laine aren’t often made available in trade talks. This guy is a 6-foot-5 power forward who has one of the most lethal shots since Alexander Ovechkin came into the league.

Laine has averaged around 35 goals a year since coming into the league and can also set up his teammates averaging close to 30 assists per year. Then you see the age on his Hockeydb page and realize he’s only 22 years old!

Needless to say, this kid is a stud.

Why is Patrik Laine perfect for the Boston Bruins?

If you have followed the Bruins for the past several years you will know there has been one slot on this roster that has been talked about and groaned about after each failed attempt to fill it — that is the right wing of veteran centre David Krejci.

General manager Don Sweeney has been struggling to find a consistent player for Krejci and that second line for years now and Bruins fans are shouting from the rooftops to finally bite the bullet and pay the price for a quality player who can stay there for years to come.

Laine is the perfect piece for that role. Krejci is one of the greater under-appreciated players of our generation, as he’s always been in the shadow of future Hall of Famer Patrice Bergeron.

David is a pass-first, playmaking kind of centre who is great at setting up his teammates but can also get open in all types of situations to be fed assists to put home.

Those two, along with young left winger Jake DeBrusk who is great working in tight to the net and loves to go battle in the corners at left wing, would create the best second line the Boston faithful have seen in years.

Is Jack Studnicka the answer for the Boston Bruins at right wing?. dark. Next

It remains to be seen what the price for Laine would be in the trade market, but Sweeney would become a hero to Bruins fans if he can pull off a solid hockey deal to acquire the young sniper.
