With the Minnesota Wild clearly open for business, the Boston Bruins would be wise to make a trade call.

If Don Sweeney does get in contact with Bill Guerin, the Boston Bruins General Manager should absolutely be asking about Jordan Greenway.

The 22 year-old winger packs size at 6’6″ and 227 pounds but hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations placed upon him by a rabid Minnesota fan base. With that size, he was meant to be their modern-day power forward but still needs more work to become that guy.

SKOR North, a sports radio station licensed in St. Paul, home of the Minnesota Wild recently made mention that Jordan Greenway could be someone the team moves on from:

"Former North Stars general manager Lou Nanne joined Judd’s Hockey Show this week and said he wouldn’t be surprised if he’s someone Minnesota moves on from. (SKOR North)"

If there is any truth to the notion that Greenway is even slightly done in Minnesota, he’d be a great addition for the Boston Bruins.

He already understands the market having spent three seasons playing NCAA hockey at Boston University. More importantly, he has yet to get anywhere near fulfilling his NHL potential.

With just over 30 games left this season, his current points total of 6 goals and 14 assists will surely climb above his career-best last year of 24 points overall, but suffice to say, the low numbers make him a cheaper pick-up.

He would likely fit quite well on the second line with the Boston Bruins, offering some size alongside the smaller and speedier Jake DeBrusk on the opposite wing. If he can learn how to properly use his body, even better as it might keep David Krejci out of the wars a little.

Perhaps where this idea stumbles is the cost of bringing the 22 year-old to the Boston Bruins. Even with Greenway reaching restricted free agency this summer, you can’t imagine he’s being given up cheaply.

As for parts the Bruins could give up; you’d likely start a conversation with Danton Heinen. He could offer an upgrade for Minnesota in terms of his versatility and most definitely in his points totals.

At just two years older than Greenway and with term at a relatively cheap cost, it’s arguable that he is, right now at least, the better player. Perhaps that’s all it takes and there’s a one-for-one deal that’s workable?

If that doesn’t work, the Boston Bruins would be wise to investigate if there’s any package deals that suit the Minnesota Wild. While they wouldn’t be willing to take on the crazy contracts of Ryan Suter or Zach Parise, there’s surely an overpaid option that we could relieve the Wild of.

There’s no clear-cut rumor or suggestion, beyond the one radio interview to suggest that Jordan Greenway is definitely even on the market, but if he is, the Boston Bruins should absolutely pounce on it.

Next. Brad Marchand is being overlooked again. dark

Tom Wilson has shown there’s still a role for a modern-day power forward; maybe Greenway could fill the same role for the Boston Bruins.
