The Boston Bruins have taken us on a ride this season; there’s games where you’re not convinced they’ll score 1 and others where 10 goals seem more likely.

This past weekend, we got the Boston Bruins that can score 8 goals in 2 games. The exact kind that we want to be out there every back-to-back set of fixtures! What’s more, the scoring wasn’t being propped up by David Pastrnak.

For what felt like the first time in a while, Pastrnak only scored 1 of those 8 goals; a power-play marker against the Minnesota Wild. He had 4 assists additional to the goal, playing a role in both goals against the Jets and 2 further in Minnesota, but he wasn’t carrying all of the weight.

Even looking at his linemates, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand – yes, Bergeron opened the scoring against the Jets and yes, Marchand added a goal against the Wild, but they weren’t dominating the scoring.

All told, Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak netted just 3 of those 8 goals between them. This is great news for the Boston Bruins. Less so for Pastrnak if he wants a shot at the Rocket Richard Trophy!

There is still a concern though given 2 goals were courtesy of Torey Krug, who actually looked like getting a hat-trick from the blue-line; something we haven’t seen since Zdeno Chara pulled it off in 2011. Since Bobby Orr left the Bruins, there’s been just three defensemen, including Chara, to pull it off.

It’s great to get that sort of contribution from the defense, but you get the feeling that Krug won’t be maintaining that sort of scoring punch game in, game out. He also added 3 helpers across the two games for a weekend total of 5 points with 4 of those coming on Saturday alone!

The biggest bonus for the Boston Bruins of late has been the up-tick in Jake Debrusk‘s scoring; he added 2 more goals (one in each game including the game-winner against Winnipeg). That sees him scoring in all of his last three games and incredibly, that’s his best goal scoring streak of the year.

Also add in the increasing confidence that Anders Bjork is showing, with his name starting to pop up on the scoresheet here and there and suddenly the Bruins aren’t just a top line team when it comes to goals.

Yes, there is still a heavy reliance on Pastrnak, Marchand and Bergeron but the rest of the roster is showing it can step up and provide some extra scoring punch when needed. Given the next month’s schedule, they’ll need to keep it up.
