The Boston Bruins are among the teams that have shown significant interest in the Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon.

The Bruins are one of those teams who already have defensive depth and don’t really need more. However, if the Boston Bruins can get Brenden Dillon in exchange for John Moore, this deal might actually be pretty smart.

John Moore hasn’t set himself apart from the other defensemen in the Bruins lineup or step up to set a physical presence that the Bruins have been missing. The Bruins have lacked the grit they got from defenseman, Kevan Miller since he was out for most of the 2018-2019 season and he’s been out all of the 2019-2020 season.

Brenden Dillon, a 6’4″ and 225-pound defensemen could be just what the Boston Bruins need as far as physicality goes on their blue line.

More from Rumors

The Bruins need a defenseman who can bring that physical presence that their current defensive lineup lacks. Dillion is in the last year of his contract with the Sharks and will hit unrestricted free agency this summer.

This year Dillon has 11 assists and one goal while playing on the Sharks’ top defensive pairing alongside Brent Burns. Dillon would be valuable to the Bruins as a short term rental player until Miller can play again.

However, Brenden Dillon would only be worth pursuing for Boston if they got the right price for him. General Manager Don Sweeney would need to make a deal to get Dillon for either John Moore or draft picks because of the Boston Bruins’ limited cap space.

The Bruins have cap space of $566,824 and making a trade would help free up some of that cap space.

The San Jose Sharks have a plus-38 advantage in shot attempts, a plus-15 in shots on goal and a plus-16 in scoring chances in 5-on-5 play when Brenden Dillon is on the ice, according to Joe Haggerty.

dark. Next. Or does a trade for Dillon make no sense?

We know that Sweeney has been looking to bolster the Boston Bruins blue line all season and Dillon could be just the guy to do it.
