For the third game in a row, the Boston Bruins lose in extra time.

The Boston Bruins, after a bounce-back road win in Florida, started this week on a hopeful note. With four straight games at home, they looked poised to string together some victories. Unfortunately, that has’t been the case.

Bruins vs Predators game recap

After an overtime loss and a shootout loss, the Bruins once again went to extra time against the Nashville Predators with a chance to earn an extra point. Different team but same result, as Boston fell 4-3 in overtime.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the second period when Par Lindholm got his second goal of the season. Nashville tied it not even five minutes later, but Patrice Bergeron scored late in the second on the power play.

Boston entered the second intermission with a 2-1 lead, and after a strong start to the third period, two points appeared likely. However, the Predators capitalized on some good fortune and scored two goals in 35 seconds to take their first lead of the game.

Nashville’s second goal came off a lucky bounce, and the third one was a gift from Jaroslav Halak. He came out to play the puck and left the net wide open for Roman Josi.

The Bruins generated a few great chances to tie the game, and they finally scored with 1:05 remaining in the game. With the goalie pulled, Bergeron tipped a David Pastrnak shot into the net.

For the third game in a row, the Bruins went to overtime. They had a few opportunities, but then Nashville scored from point-blank range after the puck bounced off the referee.

Blown lead are a recent problem for the Bruins

With the overtime loss to Nashville, Boston is now 0-0-3 in the first three games of this homestand. However, the Bruins led in all three games.

Last Tuesday against Los Angeles, Boston took the lead early in the third period. The Bruins held the one-goal lead for almost the entire period, but the Kings tied it late before they won in overtime.

In the next game versus the Islanders, the Bruins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. The Islanders then scored two-straight goals and eventually won in a shootout.

The Bruins had two different leads Saturday night against Nashville, but they lost them both. After Lindholm made it 1-0, Josi tied it shortly thereafter. Bergeron then put Boston ahead 2-1, but Filip Forsberg and Josi erased it.

The Bruins usually play well with the lead, but that hasn’t been the case lately. They had leads in all three of these recent home games, but they lost them all.

Washington is next on Monday night, so Boston certainly needs a strong showing. Otherwise, the Bruins will finish their homestand without a victory.
