Bruins call up Anders Bjork

Anders Bjork has been a popular topic of discussion for Bruins fans this season. The team needs secondary scoring, and he looked like the best option. Therefore, it seemed like only a matter of time before the Bruins called him up.

We all got our wish on Tuesday when the Bruins recalled Bjork in advance of the game against the Leafs. Boston had a roster spot after David Krejci went on injured reserve.

Bjork started the game against Toronto on a line with Sean Kuraly and Chris Wagner. He looked solid in a little over 13 minutes of action. Bjork finished as a -1, but he did have four shots on goal.

Bjork brought his skating legs against Toronto. His speed was on display whenever he was on the ice, especially on one play when he took it to the net and tried to go upstairs.

Overall, Bjork looked good enough to warrant additional playing time in Boston. At this point, that’s all the Bruins can ask for.

Boston sent Bjork back down to Providence later in the week, but this was only a paper transaction. The team will likely bring him back up for this weekend’s games against St. Louis and New York.

Bjork’s presence in Boston, when coupled with Gaunce’s injury, gives someone like Jakub Lauko a chance to really shine in Providence’s top six. We’ll see if he can take advantage.

Providence has two games this weekend. The Baby B’s play Belleville on Saturday and then take on Laval on Sunday. Let’s hope Providence can continue its strong start to the season.
