The Providence Bruins entered the third week of the regular season with a 3-1-1 record through the first five games. This was quite an impressive start for the Baby B’s.
Providence looked to continue this run with games against Laval, Belleville, and Bridgeport.
Providence dropped the first of this three-game slate last Friday night versus Laval. Alex Petrovic led the way with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 losing effort.
The next night, Providence bounced back with an impressive offensive display against Belleville. Peter Cehlarik had a goal and assist to spark a seven-goal outburst.
On Tuesday, Max Lagace stole the show in the 4-0 win against Bridgeport. Lagace’s play is definitely one of the big takeaways of the week.
Max Lagace shuts out Bridgeport
Lagace had his best game of the season when he shutout Bridgeport 4-0 at the Webster Bank Arena.
Boston signed Lagace this offseason to be a veteran presence in Providence. The goal was for him to split time in the crease with Dan Vladar. Lagace could provide support and be steady for such a young team.
More importantly, Lagace would allow prospect Kyle Keyser to get playing time in the ECHL. Keyser is currently with Providence because of Vladar’s injury, but the overall outcome remains the same. Lagace’s presence puts Keyser in a better role to succeed.
Lagace’s shutout against Bridgeport, especially when combined with his other starts this year, shows that he can be more for Providence. Lagace can be a good starter who can keep Providence in contention all year long.
This is important because it means young prospects like Jack Studnicka will get quality playing time in important games as the season goes along. The last thing you want is for these young players to get used to losing; instead, you want them to feel that winning mentality.
Lagace may not have much of a future in Boston himself, but he certainly can make some impact on the organization’s future.
