Nonetheless, the Boston Bruins sent Bjork down to Providence to start the season. The organization wanted to Bjork to get as much playing time as possible early in the season. Plus, Bjork needed to show that he was totally healthy.
Nobody really thought Bjork would stay down in the AHL for too long. In fact, coach Bruce Cassidy even hinted that Bjork’s stint in Providence would be a short one. Still, it was good to see Bjork take the move in stride.
Like most expected, Bjork looked great down in Providence. He had three goals and five assists in his first seven games, and he was a +5. There were times when he looked like the best player on the ice.
Bjork’s strong play earned him the call up to Boston. Where exactly does he fit in with the Bruins?
There are a few different spots for Bjork in Boston’s lineup. It all depends on where Cassidy feels most comfortable.
Here are how the Bruins looked during Tuesday’s morning skate:
Bjork started on a wing with Sean Kuraly and Chris Wagner. This is a good spot for Bjork. He’ll get to play with two players who have above-average speed. The last thing we want to see is the speedy Bjork slowed down by his linemates.
More importantly, Bjork should get regular playing time in this role. The Bruins weren’t going to call up Bjork to have him sit on the bench. For him to continue to grow and develop, he needs to play.
What’s also noteworthy is that Bjork lines up on the left wing with Kuraly and Wagner. This is important because Bjork’s looked much more comfortable on the left wing this season with Providence. He played on the right wing with Boston before, so it’s great that he’s now in a more natural position.
Bjork gives Tuesday night’s game against the Leafs a little more excitement. We all want to see if Bjork can make an instant impact as a Boston Bruins player.
It’s no secret that the Bruins struggled with secondary scoring again this year. There hasn’t been a ton of production other than the top line. Let’s see if Bjork can fill in some of that void. If he can, expect him in the top six sooner rather than later.
