David Krejci has had a challenging start in the regular season. The Boston Bruins second-line center now has to deal with his second injury in the timespan of fewer than two weeks.
The Boston Bruins have had some difficulties scoring goals and generating offense from the guys not named Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, or David Pastrnak. The second line hasn’t been able to supply the offensive production so far at the beginning of the new campaign. Mainly because of David Krejci’s injury troubles.
Krejci’s last three seasons were highlighted by his ironman streak. Last year, as well as in 2017, the Czech center has not missed a game because of an injury. In the 2017-18 season, David Krejci missed 16 games due to an injury at the early stages of the season.
Would the 33-year-old forward maintain his ironman streak without missing a tilt because of an injury for two consecutive seasons? The Opening Night in Dallas offered us a response, as Krejci was sidelined with a knee injury.
In his first four games of the campaign, especially after recovering from his knee issues, Krejci struggled to drive the offense with just one point, which was an assist while playing with Marchand and Pastrnak. Otherwise, Krejci´s second line has strived offensively.
Against the Anaheim Ducks, Krejci left the contest with an upper-body injury sustained in his right hip during the first period. If Krejci is going to miss some extended period, it will be a concern for the Bruins looking for secondary scoring.
Five games played, one point registered, two injuries sustained, one to his lower-body, another one to his upper-body section. That´s a nightmare start to the season for the Czech veteran, who had 73 points last year. It was just the second time in his career David Krejci was able to achieve at least 70 points, the first time in 10 years.
With the second line’s issues, the Bruins can easily survive as long as the top line continues to put the pucks to the net at such a high ratio.
