With three straight wins to open the year, the Boston Bruins will hope to add a fourth as they end a tough road-trip against the Colorado Avalanche.

You’d have to imagine the Boston Bruins are arriving in Colorado on a high (no pun intended). They left Vegas with a strong 4-3 win, which also saw the likes of Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak suddenly finding their form.

However, the Avalanche side they find themselves facing has looked equally as strong, winning 5-3 in their first game against the Calgary Flames before adding a further four goals in a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. They have since had a nice three-day rest.

Perhaps the rest days actually don’t prove useful and we see a slow start from the Avalanche; if that’s the case the Boston Bruins need to capitalise early.

More from Bruins News

The scary part for the Bruins is the calibre of the Avs’ top-line. Between Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen; there’s a combined 9 points across just two games this season already.

Beyond that, there’s depth scoring too; Matt Calvert, summer signing Joonas Donskoi and their young blue-line contender for the Calder Trophy this year, Cale Makar – all of them have two points.

Looking elsewhere on the roster, another big concern for the Bruins is a player that we know well, Nazem Kadri. He has been held scoreless in his first two games for the Avs, but will no doubt break-out eventually. They certainly have threats coming from all over their line-up; just quieting the first line won’t always work!

On the flip side though, they ice a young defensive group (for the most part) and any lapses in concentration can surely be capitalised upon, especially as the Boston Bruins have finally started to find their scoring touch in Vegas the other night.

Philipp Grubauer is be no means an impenetrable goaltender, in fact he’s already conceded 5 goals this year. That should give some hope for a Bruins side that put 4 past Marc-Andre Fleury, who is certainly a calibre above.

You’d imagine, regardless of whether Tuukka Rask is properly injured or was just suffering some exhaustion by the end of the Vegas game, that Jaroslav Halak will step in between the pipes. He had a shut-out in his first appearance this season and splitting the games 50/50 with Rask this year certainly doesn’t look to be out for the question for the Slovakian goalie.

This fixture last year saw Halak lit up in a 6-3 loss with Rantanen grabbing 3 points and MacKinnon nabbing a goal and an assist. Jake DeBrusk’s two-goal night was nowhere near enough to steal the win last time out at the Pepsi Center. Whether we’re in for a different result against a rested Colorado side or not is anyone’s guess though.
