The Boston Bruins will hit the ice in Texas at 8:30PM EDT, officially commencing their 2019-20 regular season. Here’s the lowdown on their opening night.
Heading to Dallas, the Boston Bruins look relatively unchanged from the team that took eventual Stanley Cup winners, the St. Louis Blues to Game 7 in last year’s Stanley Cup Final.
The only names departing were Noel Acciari (Florida Panthers) and deadline pick-up, Marcus Johansson (Buffalo Sabres) whilst Par Lindholm (Winnipeg Jets) and Brett Ritchie (Dallas Stars) arrived; depth moves in all reality and ones that shouldn’t make too much of an impact.
Perhaps the bigger news this summer was the successful contract renewals of defensemen, Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo and versatile forward, Danton Heinen – that was certainly more worthy of the headlines.

Anyhow, against the Dallas Stars, it’s imperative that the Boston Bruins first line is firing on all cylinders; Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak are likely to spend much of the game matched up with a group that features Tyler Seguin and his regular sidekick, Jamie Benn, possibly alongside new recruit, Joe Pavelski.
If that happens to be the case, the Boston Bruins will definitely need to bring their A-game tonight.
Outside of the obvious danger that the Dallas Stars possess in their first line trio; they have possibly one of the most underrated defensemen in the league in John Klingberg as a key feature on the blue-line. He is not to be taken lightly; if he can get shots away, he’s a very dangerous offensive threat, especially should Tuukka Rask have any early season hiccups.
Starting out in Dallas isn’t going to be a walk in the park for the Boston Bruins, it’s a building that they went down to the Stars 1-0 in overtime in last year’s matching fixture in a game that was tight and scrappy. Given there hasn’t been that much turnover on either side, we might well expect a fairly rough-and-tumble game tonight.
