Charlie Coyle was acquired by the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline to provide some extra depth to the lineup. A few months later, Coyle had become one of the most important players for the Bruins during their run to the Stanley Cup Final.

When the Boston Bruins initially traded for Charlie Coyle, there was some worry among fans that the move wouldn’t work out the way they wanted. After all, Coyle wasn’t the big name that some were hoping the Bruins would chase after, and there was fear that the Bruins had passed once again given up a young player far too soon, this time with Ryan Donato.

However, after Coyle’s performance throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he has quickly become a favourite in Boston.

Coyle finished the playoffs tied with David Krejci for fifth place in team scoring with 16 points. That feat is impressive in itself, but it becomes even more impressive when you realize that Coyle played the majority of his minutes on the third line. More importantly, Coyle’s points seemed to come when they were most needed.

His biggest game of the playoffs came in Game 1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, when he scored the tying goal in the final minutes of regulation and then later netted the game-winner in overtime. But that’s just one example of what Coyle was able to provide offensively.

Coyle became a key player for the Bruins, especially while the top lines were struggling to produce. The third line, led by Coyle and Marcus Johansson, carried the Bruins all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.

While he recorded 4 points in the series against the St. Louis Blues, Coyle’s offense ran dry during the final three games of the series as he was held without any points.

With his performance throughout the playoffs, Coyle surpassed the expectations that were set for him. For a third line player to stand out among some of the stars that the Bruins have, it says a lot about the performance from Charlie Coyle during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Going forward, it’s safe to say the Boston Bruins will be happy to have the Massachusetts-born forward among their ranks for the 2019-20 season. He adds versatility and depth, proving that he belonged in the playoffs also helps!
