The Boston Bruins did more than just secure home ice for the first round of the 2019 playoffs tonight. One member of the Black and Gold has placed themselves in very elite company; Bruins forward Brad Marchand had a goal (his 36th) and an assist (his 64th) tonight.
His two point performance earned himself his 100th point of the 2018-19 season. Brad Marchand notched point number 99 on his second-period goal that got the Boston Bruins up to a 3-0 lead.
Brad Marchand cracked the triple digits with his assist on David Pastrnak’s goal early in the third period.
The last time a member of the Boston Bruins cracked the 100-point mark was Joe Thornton back in 2002-03.

The Boston Bruins walked away with two points in a 6-3 win. This guarantees them home ice advantage when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The list of 100-point players for the Boston Bruins is quite exclusive. Brad Marchand becomes only the tenth person in the 95 years of the B’s franchise to hit that milestone. Marchand joins Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk, Ken Hodge, Rick Middleton, Barry Pederson, Joe Juneau, Adam Oates and Joe Thornton as members of the Bruins 100 point club.
Brad Marchand has evolved in his 10-year career. He started out as a world-class agitator for the Black and Gold. He had a preternatural ability to crawl under people’s skin (fans and players alike). He was one of those players you would have hated if he wasn’t on your team. While he was certainly an outstanding player, his antics found him in hot water with the league, earning him several suspensions for his reckless play.
In the last few seasons, his game shifted from being the team rat. He’s become the second best all-around player on the team (behind his linemate Patrice Bergeron). He’s even avoided getting in any trouble with the league this year. In fact, Connor McDavid has been suspended for more games this season than Marchand has. (I never thought I’d actually say that out loud.)
Half of the Bruins who have had 100-point seasons have had their number retired. It’s pretty much a given that Patrice Bergeron will have his number retired at the end of his career. But it’s looking more and more certain that his linemate and friend will join him in the rafters one day.
Congratulations to Brad Marchand for hitting 100 points this season. We look forward to seeing him raising Cain in the playoffs.
