Bruins’ rookie sensation Charlie McAvoy took to the ice on Monday afternoon for a skate before team practice. News that will ring blissfully in the ears of Bruins fans.
McAvoy has been out of action since being diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia, a scary-sounding but non-dangerous condition. The rookie defenseman underwent his procedure on Jan.22 and the general consensus was that he would be out of action for at least two weeks.
"“I basically had a week of nothing,” said McAvoy. “First of all to sit around and make sure I’m not exerting myself in any way that is going to disrupt my first week of recovery and today I’m back at the rink and able to start doing some stuff.” (Boston Herald)"
While there is no clear return date as yet, McAvoy underwent some skating on Monday but did not partake in team practice. He has a timetabled recovery plan in place with team doctors.
McAvoy was told to undergo the procedure due to the likelihood of reoccurrence. Picking around the All-Star weekend to allow maximum time to recover, whilst missing the minimum amount of games.
It’s an exciting prospect to have McAvoy on the road to recovery. The team hasn’t necessarily struggled without him but are far stronger with him in the lineup. Bridging the gap between offense and defense with breathtaking puck movement.
Next: Bruins to play in China?
It seems unlikely that he will be back in the lineup this week. However there has to be some onus on the team to continue the streak until he returns to the lineup. Tonight, Bruins will look to take one step closer to a franchise record of consecutive points, set back in the 1940-41 season.
