The Boston Bruins welcome the New Jersey Devils into town Tuesday for the second meeting between the two teams this season. Updates on Charlie McAvoy and the lineup before puck drop.
If you haven’t heard yet, Boston Bruins rookie sensation Charlie McAvoy will be on the shelf for the next two weeks after undergoing successful ablation to treat an abnormal heart beat on Monday.
Head Coach Bruce Cassidy said the following during his Press Conference Tuesday:
"“Charlie’s doing very well, had a procedure done yesterday, he’s resting comfortably, I think he’s actually been released from the hospital, he’s doing well, and everything went well. My concern, and our concern as an organization, is obviously his health going forward. Whatever time he needs to recover…his health is our No. 1 priority.”"
The coach also added that an official statement will be made public from Don Sweeney and the medical staff some time Tuesday. Which should answer any questions any of us may have.

The Bruins are trying to extend their point streak to 17 games Tuesday night against a Devils team which they’ve already beaten. Albeit, in a shootout where Charlie McAvoy was the hero. They’ll have to do it without him tonight. The franchise record for games without a regulation loss is 23, set back in 1940-41, a year they went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Other news
Along with Carlo being bumped up, Adam McQuaid and Kevan Miller will both dress in the same game for the first time since October 19th, when the Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-3. The Bruins are fortunate to have great depth defensively, and as we’ve seen this season, the injury bug can strike at any moment.
Tuukka Rask will be in net tonight against New Jersey. In his last 15 games, he is 12-0-2 with a .938 SV% and a 1.73 GAA. He is working his way into the Vezina conversation after some we’re clamoring for him to benched in favor of Anton Khudobin.
A brief note from the AHL, Providence goaltender Zane McIntyre was named the CCM AHL player of the week for this past week. He went 2-0 with two shutouts.
