Is it Monday yet?!?!  The long lay-off from Boston Bruins hockey has been torture, as we fans have to watch other teams play.  But here’s some news anyway.

Boston Bruins
BOSTON, MA – OCTOBER 05: Boston Bruins right wing Noel Acciari (55) introduced before an NHL game between the Boston Bruins and the Nashville Predators on October 5, 2017, at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. • Boston Bruins center Noel Acciari has been known as a player willing to do what’s necessary to help his team.  The fourth line player is one of Boston’s best penalty kill specialists.  Unfortunately, that style of play leads to this:  Acciari will be out for several weeks to recover from surgery to repair a fractured finger.  WEEI
  • While the Boston Bruins aren’t playing, the Bruins from Providence opened their AHL regular season last night.  Many of the players on the team were seriously competing for an NHL roster spot in training camp.  Watch out for Providence this year, after opening their season with a solid win.  Providence Bruins
  • The Hockey Writers used NHL ’18 to do a simulation of the season.  It was predicted that the Bruins wouldn’t make the playoffs.  This is why I don’t trust technology.  The Hockey Writers
  • The term “youth movement” has been bandied around Boston media like crazy to describe the current Bruins roster.  While the young players had a direct impact on the ice in the season opener, are they also having an impact on veterans like David Krejci?  NBC Sports Boston
  • The Bruins were the only NHL team not to play yesterday.  To cure the boredom, we picked the winners of each game, other than the 2:00 pm matinee.  There was some fun banter back and forth between the FanSided blogs.  But, with that, we picked 7 of 14 games right.  Not great, but not bad.  Pretty average.  Causeway Crowd Twitter

Alex Ovechkin
WASHINGTON, DC – OCTOBER 07: Alex Ovechkin
  • Alexander Ovechkin.  Are you kidding me?  A hat trick in a season opener is impressive enough as it is.  But to follow that up with a FOUR goal performance in the second game of the season?  That’s simply unreal.  Looks like someone is sick and tired of the McDavid/Crosby debate.  First time in 100 years a player has scored two hat tricks to start the season.  ESPN
  • In the same game, another historic goal was scored.  Nathan Walker became the first Australian to play in the NHL.  He also became the first Australian to score in the NHL.  Washington Capitals Twitter
  • Hobey Baker Award winner Will Butcher spurned the Colorado Avalanche, and signed this offseason with the New Jersey Devils.  The teams met up for a 2:00 pm game on Saturday, and the new guy dropped 3 assists on the team he stood up for Prom.  NY Daily News
  • Here’s an interesting stat:  there were four shorthanded goals scored in the New York Islanders/Buffalo Sabres game last night.  Yes, four.  It’s bad enough when a team’s power play struggles to score, but when they give up shorties like they’re going out of style?  Not good.  WKBW-TV
  • James Neal is in fact the real deal.  He scored his 3rd goal of the season on OT, leading the Vegas Golden Knights to an improbable 2-0-0 start to the season.  NHL Video
  • J.T. Brown became the first NHL player to make a demonstration during the National Anthem.  CBC
